Slackware 10 got released a couple weeks ago and I didn't even know...
So! I decided to start setting up the server.

...and 7pm rolls around, what have I accomplished? I downloaded Slackware 10! ...yeah, thats it. I downloaded it. I'm burning it at a whopping 2x right now, because for some reason I can't make osX recognize my winxp box on my network, to copy over the files and burn them like toast does oh so sweetly. So instead of that comforting hum i'd hear from my laptop for a couple minutes while a disc burns, i'm stuck sitting here expecting something to start smoking inside my PC. But! Its the process that counts, right? A learning experience. I havn't touched Linux since last summer, when I (sort of) had an earlier distro of Slack running. Hopfully the box that I plan on setting up this time around will serve its purpose a little better.

Anyways, i'm just updating to pass the time a little quicker, and to begin a mini chronicle of my adventures with an old Compaq Presario p200 and Slackware. Stay tuned for my misforune. I'll edit this post with progress or lack there of.

10:20 - The CD's didn't finish burning until well after 8. I've made almost no progress since then. haha. The CD rom is acting really strange. For some reason it'll boot, or at least START to boot both knoppix and phlack, two CD based distros.. but soon as I stick the slack CD in, it boots straight into windows. I'm not sure whats up. I'm going to try running them on another PC, and if they work fine, i might have to stick a new CD rom in the machine waiting for its new OS. The thing is acting really quirky in general, aside from not recognizing the Slack CD's... I'll be back with better news soon, hopfully.

11:30 - Well, after realizing the cd's ARE a problem (not sure about the CD rom yet, its still acting weird...) I tried to make the network work again... with no luck what so ever. Why? I have no idea. I was transferring files a couple days ago. I have no idea what's changed and i'm a little too frustrated to troubleshoot at the moment.. so i decided to transfer via external harddrive.. which promptly crashed 20 minutes into the file transfer. Awesome. I think i'm going to call it a night for this project.. haha. I'll pick it up again tomorrow. I'm too frustrated to do much more at this point.
